How to add check in location on Facebook Page

The first thing to do is see if your business already exists on Facebook. Whether or not you have an official Facebook page for your business, a local business page may exist. This happens if someone has checked in at your business before you have enabled the feature.  Don’t worry….you don’t have to manage two pages now…we’ll fix it.

To see if you exist just do a quick search from the top bar of Facebook for your business.

Claim Your Facebook Places Page

If you find that your business already exists you need to claim the page. This is a simple process and takes only a minute.

1. From the Page, click the “star” menu.
2. Select “Is this your business?”
3. Follow the steps that appear on your screen. Add and verify information about your business like the address and website and click Continue.
4. Next, Facebook will ask you to claim your Page to prevent other people from becoming an admin without your permission. Choose to verify your connection to the business by Email, Phone number or by uploading Documentation:
   • Email: Choose this option if you have an email address associated with your Facebook account that is officially issued to you by your business. Email addresses from generic providers like Yahoo! or Gmail will not be accepted. The email address should correspond to your business’s name (ex: [email protected]).
   • Phone number: Choose this option if you have a phone number that is publicly listed for your business. Personal cell phone numbers will not be accepted. Enter the phone number that your customers use to contact your business. Once you confirm your business phone number, you’ll receive a phone call with a unique PIN. Enter the PIN and click Verify.
   • Documentation: Upload a scan or photo of an official document that shows your business’s name and address (ex: phone bill, business license, business tax file, articles of incorporation, etc.).
5. Click Submit.

Merge Your Facebook Place & Facebook Page

The last step is to merge the two pages as one.

To merge your Pages:

1. Make sure you’re using Facebook as yourself and not as your Page
2. From the top of the Page you created for your business, click “Edit Page”
3. Select “Edit Settings”
4. Select “Merge Pages” and click “Merge duplicate Pages”
5. Fill out the form and click “Send”

This process will combine all likes and check-ins on your official page and from this point on users will be able to find your page and check-in.

The Facebook Mobile application for smartphones and mobile devices includes the Facebook Places feature that allows users to "check-in" to a specific location. Facebook Places uses map, satellite navigation and cell phone network location technology to track user locations. Once you have checked in to a location, Facebook posts this information to your profile page and News Feed. The application also prompts you to tag the Facebook friends who are with you and find other Facebook users at the same place. If you cannot find the correct check-in location from the list of available places nearby when you log in to the application, make your own Facebook Places check-in location.

Launch the Facebook Mobile application on your smartphone or mobile device.

Tap "Places" on the menu screen.

Tap the "Check In" button on the menu bar at the top of the screen. This launches the "Nearby" screen with a list of local places to which you can check-in.

Tap the "Find or Add a Place" input field at the top of the screen.

Type a name for the new place into the field. Click the "Add" link at the bottom of the page.

Enter a description for the new check-in location into the "Description" input field. This step is optional, so skip it if you do not want to include a description.

Click the "Add" button in the main menu. This adds the new check-in location to Facebook Places. Click the "Check In" button to share your visit with friends.

Facebook places lets users on the social networking site keep their friend list apprised of where they're hanging out. If you're a business owner, add your business location to the places application so that users can check in to it. When a user checks in to your business, her friends see a link to her check-in as well as a map of its location. Claiming your business's place page allows you to add more details to the page, such as photos.

   Go to your business with a cellphone that grants Internet access. Point your phone's browser to the Facebook website and log in to your account.

   Click the "Check In" link on the Facebook homepage. Select the "Add" link, located to the left of the places search box.

   Enter the name of your business and a description. Choose the "Add" button at the bottom of the screen and then "Check In." Your business has now been added to the Facebook places database, and all other users can see it and check in there.

   Go to Facebook on a computer to access the regular site -- not the mobile version offered on your phone. Search for your business in the search bar at the top of any screen on the site and click it in the "Places" section of your search results.

   Click the "Is this your business?" link on the left side of the screen. Follow the instructions provided by Facebook to complete a phone verification. Facebook requires that you verify your ownership for your own protection -- it prohibits anyone else from claiming your business's place page without your knowledge.
