Why Use Instagram Creator Studio?

In today’s post, I share how to post and schedule Instagram posts natively on your desktop via Instagram Creator Studio.

Ever since I started using Instagram, I’ve searched high and low to automate posting my content. There are all sorts of 3rd-party apps and tools that say they can do it, but because of Instagram’s policies, don’t have the functionality I’m looking for.

This lack of a solution was until the other day when I found Instagram Creator Studio. This tool is native to Facebook and Instagram and doesn’t require any paid subscription.

Best of all, you can use it on your desktop, which makes batch posting content so much easier, in my opinion.

Instagram Creator Studio is a game-changer and allows Instagram users and real estate agents, like me, the ability to utilize Instagram without having to post throughout the day.

How To Use

To begin using Instagram Creator Studio, you’ll need to set up your Instagram account correctly.

Business or Creator Account

You’ll need to convert your Instagram account to a business or creator account. Switching to a business or creator account can be done quickly from within the settings on the Instagram app. Business and creator accounts give Instagram users the ability to see post and account analytics and add a bio link to their profile. I recommend using either of these types of accounts compared to a personal account.

Connect to a Facebook Business Page

Once you’ve converted to a business or creator account, you’ll need to link your Instagram account to a Facebook Page that you manage. This Facebook business page can be “unpublished” if you don’t want the public to see it.

Login to Instagram Creator Studio

Once you’ve completed these two steps, then head over to https://facebook.com/creatorstudio to login. At the top of the page, click the Instagram logo.

Once you’re here, you’re all set and ready to go on using Instagram Creator Studio.

What Can You Post?

With Instagram Creator Studio, users can automate posting of photo, video, carousel, and IGTV posts.

The only type of post that can not be automated is Instagram stories. Stories are an in-the-moment type of posts anyways, so automating them wouldn’t be as beneficial.

When you load up Instagram Creator Studio, you’ll automatically be on the “Content Library” panel from the left menu.

You can view all your past posts and the analytics for each of them in the content library. Posts include Video, Photo, Carousel, Stories, and IGTV posts. You can also group these posts by clicking through the tabs at the top of the page.

Insights in Instagram Creator Studio

Instagram Creator Studio gives you insight into each of your posts and your Instagram account as a whole.

In the content library, you can see insights into individual posts. You can also see Activity and Audience insights for your account by clicking the “Insights” tab on the left menu.

Activity Insights

Activity insights show how much action you receive on your posts and account. These insights include interactions and people discovering your account.

Within the interactions chart, you can see helpful analytics, such as profile and website visits.

Within the Discovery Chart, you can see reach and impressions. “Reach” is the number of individual accounts that have seen your posts. “Impressions” are how many times your posts showed up on someone’s feed.

Audience Insights

Audience insights within Instagram Creator Studio show you who your audience is. Audience insights include information related to age and gender, location, and times your audience is on Instagram.

Instagram Accounts

The “Instagram Accounts” tab on the left menu shows you which accounts are connected to Instagram Creator Studio and allows you to add multiple Instagram accounts if needed. Simply click the “Add Instagram Account” button in the top right of the page.

Creating a Post

To create a post in Instagram Creator Studio, click the top-left “Create Post” button. You’ll then need to select either a feed or IGTV post. Feed posts are your standard photo, video, and carousel posts.

Publishing on Your Instagram Feed

When you publish to your Instagram feed, you’ll want to fill out as much information about the post as possible. You’ll want to include a caption, hashtags, mentions, and location, when possible. Additionally, you can share the post to Facebook by checking the box at the bottom.

Add Content

To add the content you’d like to publish, like a photo or video, click the “Add Content” button In the middle of the page. Here you can upload content from your computer or select content from your Facebook page. Select multiple files to upload to create a carousel post.

The content you select in Instagram Creator Studio must be pre-edited. This requirement is unlike on the Instagram app, where you can edit content once chosen.

Use a tool like Canva to edit the content on your computer. You can add filters, text, and much more.

Caption

Captions are limited to 2200 characters, 30 @mentions, and 30 hashtags. @mentions are when you want to tag someone in the post. Hashtags are how people find your content through search.

Hashtags

Be sure to maximize your posts reach by using all 30 hashtags. To find relevant hashtags that will help people find your content, use a tool like Flick.

Note that with Instagram Creator Studio, you can only put hashtags in the caption, not the first comment like some users are used to doing.

Location

In addition to using real estate hashtags and tagging other Instagram accounts through mentions, location is one of the ways people can find your posts. I recommend choosing an appropriate location for each of your posts. The location could include your city or one in which you’d like to target.

If you’d like to also share the post to Facebook, you can do so here. This option also allows you to separately save as a draft to edit later or schedule the post to be published later on your Facebook page.

Publish

Before you hit publish, decide if you want to schedule the post or have it go live right away. If you wish to schedule the post, click the down arrow. You’ll either schedule the post or save it as a draft for later editing and publishing.

Note that once you schedule a post, you are not able to edit it. You’ll need to delete the post in Instagram Creator Studio, re-create, and reschedule.

Publishing a Video

When you publish a video on your feed, the duration can be between 3-60 seconds. The aspect ratio needs to be either 4:5 (vertical), 16:9 (horizontal) or 1:1 (square) ratio.

Publishing on IGTV

If you’d like to upload video content longer than 60 seconds, you’ll need to publish it to IGTV. Here the duration can be between 15 seconds and 60 minutes.

Title

Make sure to add a click-worthy title to your IGTV video. The title can be up to 75 characters.

Description

When filling out the video description, use the same best practices as above for a photo post.

One important thing to note that is specific to IGTV descriptions is that you can add clickable links. Adding clickable links is a significant benefit that should be taken advantage of. Typically, the ability to add links is reserved only for Instagram users that have over 10,000 followers.

Cover Image

Be sure to add a cover image to your IGTV post. You’ll want to use the dimensions 1320 x 1920 px with a 120-pixel border to reduce cropping.

Share Preview To Feed

If you’d like your IGTV video to show up on your Instagram feed (where your photo and video posts are), you’ll want to check this box. Sharing a preview to your feed allows anyone scrolling your feed to click on your IGTV video from your feed, watch a preview of the video, and then continue watching on IGTV after the preview has completed.
