Facebook link not opening in WhatsApp

If you have an online business, it’s best to have all your digital media connected, don’t you think? That includes linking WhatsApp to Facebook.

It’s only logical, Facebook is one of the most important social networks where you share content about your business… and WhatsApp is the most widely used instant messaging app.

💡 First conclusion: linking the two platforms will help you grow your business.

Why? Among other advantages, you can create ads on Facebook to click through to WhatsApp so users will send you a message on WhatsApp Business from Facebook. Another advantage you’ll find interesting is that users who visit your Facebook fan page can contact you and send you a WhatsApp message in just one click.

That way, you make it easier for Facebook users to contact you and that can be key in closing a sale and having a satisfied customer.

That said, how can you link WhatsApp to Facebook? Here we go!

To synch and connect the two platforms properly, you need:

▶️ A WhatsApp Business account: you can download it here for Android or iOS.

▶️ A Facebook fan page: learn how to create a page here and optimize your business page here.

Now we’ll add another player, your Facebook fan page. Remember to create your business page so you can link it to WhatsApp Business.

  1. Log into Facebook and go to the fan page you want to connect.
  2. Tap Settings and in the left column, with all the settings options, tap WhatsApp.

Facebook app

Tap on the triple-line (sandwich) menu, scroll down to Settings & Privacy, and choose Settings. Again, scroll all the way down to Media & Contacts. Here, you will see a “Links open externally” toggle.

Why can’t I open links in my apps?

Why can’t I open links on Android? If you can’t open links on Android apps, make sure to check in-app settings, reinstall the app, or inspect in-app permissions. If that doesn’t help, clearing cache and data from essential Google Services or reinstalling WebView should resolve the issue.

Browser Issues

The lack of link-clicking might simply be a browser setting gone awry. If you can, try clicking on a link with a different browser to see if it works. If it does, then your browser settings are probably off and need to be reset. One way to do this quickly is to uninstall and reinstall the browser.

Most likely problems with opening hyperlinks are connected with either the security restrictions of your Internet browser that doesn’t allow opening pop-up windows, or with your Flash player plug-in that prevents you from opening URLs in local Flash files.

Links may be broken for a variety of reasons, including the URL being mistyped, the webpage no longer being online, the page’s URL having changed, or the linked page having restricted access (such as by being behind a password or firewall).

Ensuring Inserted Links Are Clickable

When the window opens with your settings, find the “AutoFormat” tab, check the “Internet and network paths with hyperlinks” box under “Replace,” and then click “OK.” Moving forward, you should see links you type or paste into future messages as underlined and blue.

If you are still having issues with the links, clearing website data will improve Safari performance and this may also fic this issue. On your device, go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website. You will need to confirm again by tapping Clear History and Data.

To get started, open the “Settings” app and then tap “Safari.” Next, scroll down and tap “Open Links” to open the next screen. The next screen will show the two options available to you. If you want to open new links in the background, without having them steal focus, tap “In Background” and exit the Settings app.

First, you can copy a link you find on the web and then launch the Opener app to choose which native application you want to open the link within. A YouTube link, for instance, would let you pick from native apps like ProTube or YouTube. A Twitter link could be opened in Twitter, Tweetbot, or Twitterific.

If you are still not able to open links in Safari on your device, you can try to also make the following setup on your iPhone/iPad: Settings > Safari > Open Links > Select Background. Similarly, this also works only for Safari, while Message and mail still freezes when you click on hyperlinks.

If a page doesn’t open or finish loading, try to reload it: Choose View > Reload Page or press Command-R. If that doesn’t work, press Command-Q to quit Safari, then reopen Safari and try again. If Safari doesn’t quit, press Option-Command-Esc to force Safari to quit.

Links can only open in-app if the user is signed in. The user should be registered and signed in before expecting links to content to open directly in the mobile app.

Make sure you have the correct address for the webpage and that you typed it correctly. Your web browser may not be able to open a webpage because it doesn’t recognize the first part of the address, which identifies the Internet Protocol (such as HTTP or HTTPS). Try deleting the Internet Protocol from the address.

In iTunes: Go to the store page for the app and right click on the App Name. Select copy link and paste this link into the Mobile App Studio for the iOS Default URL. On the web: Open the iTunes Preview page for the app (this can be found by Googling the app) and copy the link in the web browser.
